The rooms were very clean and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay there! The location is decent as well.

Overall I'd recommend if you're just looking for a low priced place in Spearfish and can handle the above caveats.
I like this place. The owners are awesome nice people. It may not be the most luxurious place but it isn't some dive hotel either. It is great for some R&R. Affordable, also they offer extended stay rates and they have a 24hr on call in case of late check in or whatever reason you may need their assistance.
Pros: Clean rooms, good showerheads with a neat mist feature, full selection of TV channels. Outside entrance means no kids running by the door screaming. Competitive prices (make sure to check online as the price they give you at the desk may be a bit more)
This hotel is in the process of being remodeled and was in the earlier stages when I arrived but the rooms were still in good shape. The manager of this place as of Oct 2017 is a straight shooter with good attention to detail that is the perfect person to be in charge of remodeling a place like this.
It may not be the most upscale hotel out there. But the owners and staff are just awesome people. And it is a nice place where you can actually get some real R & R
Cons: Being an older establishment, the walls don't have the best soundproofing. You will hear the muttering of the neighbor's television and other activities which can go well into the night. A pair of earplugs took care of this with complete efficiency. The AC unit when turned on even at the lowest setting left quite a draft directed at the bed which could get unpleasant. I was trying to use the fan setting for white noise but the draft was too much.
